Blast from the Past
This week my co-workers and I held a little blast-from-the-past luncheon and time warped into the 80's. We dug out our favorite CDs and (gasp) cassette tapes featuring Bon Jovi, New Kids on the Block, Devo, Air Supply, Wham!, Robert Palmer, and some one-hit wonders. We shared old photographs of those stylin' days and laughed until tears poured from our eyes. If you grew up in the 80's then you know it was the best decade EVER! The best music, the best TV shows, the best movies in spite of the fashion faux pas such as line-backer shoulder pads, jelly shoes, neon socks and mullets.
BOOK BLURB~
"Norway, 851.
Never a Viking's captive.
Spirited across an icy sea, lovely and dauntless Lady Brenna Carmarham vowed vengeance on her Viking abductors. Slavery was the fate of women captured on raids, but when she faced the man who was now her master, she swore she would never be owned.
Forever a viking's love
Yet Garrick Haardrad, the proud and powerful son of the Viking chieftain, claimed her with a primitive abandon that left her breathless. And between them built a passion that ignited the long cold nights... until a rival Norseman challenged the bond desire had forged --and only love could bind forever!"I credit Ms. Lindsey for my love of romance novels. Looking back, Fires of Winter impacted not only my reading and my writing, but as fate would have it, I also married a man of Norwegian descent, so I have a Viking of my own
.What is the first romance novel that you remember reading and how long ago was it?

What a fun office you must work at! One of my first experiences with romance was Sidney Sheldon's The Other Side of Midnight. I haven't read it since, but I should.
Oh yes! Sidney Sheldon. My favorite was Windmill of the Gods.
I can't remember the name of the first romance novel I read! But I do know it was a harlequin. My mom brought home a box load of harlequin novels from her office, and I dove in. I loved to read and was out of new books. I'd never heard of "romance novels," so I had no idea why these books filled me with angst and left me so happy at the end when the hero and heroine found their happy-ever-after. By the time I realized harlequins were romance novels, I was hooked. I remember thinking, "when I grow up, I want to write for Harlequin." :-)
Hey Kim! So glad you stopped by. I believe that you will write for HQN and I'm looking forward to it!
Krystal, my daughter is named Brenna--hmmmm..where did I get that name? She is 26 years old.
I LOVED that book!
Sorry---I spelled your name wrong!!
Kristal~ there I have it right.
Hi Lindi,
No worries. I answer to all spellings, lol.
My friend who snuck the book from her mother named her 1st daughter Brenna and her second is named Lindsey. :)

Oh wow! I haven't read Sidney Sheldon in forever. Used to be one of my favorite authors! I was especially fond of "Bloodline".
Kristal--Naming my characters is one of my favorite parts of writing. It has to be just the right name, you know?
I like the Brenna-Lindsey story. Fun!
Deb- I know, its been more than a decade since I've read Sidney Sheldon. After Wynter mentioned him, I had to add one to my TBR pile.
Lindi--
Yes, finding the right name for a character is critical. That's where I begin. Once I have a name, the character speaks to me. It's an awesome moment.
