Christmas in June.

I’m feeling like a ten year old the week before Christmas.  I know what’s coming (THE BULL RIDER’S BROTHER releasing June 4th) but I have no idea what it will be like, having a release week for my debut book.  So, like a writer, I’m imagining all sorts of activities.

*My book shoots up to the top 100 e-books on Amazon the first week.
*My work mates all buy a copy and tell everyone they know how wonderful the book is.
*My husband takes me out for our favorite Red Lobster dinner – on a Monday.

Okay, now I know I’m in fantasy land.

My work had a mini-picnic celebration yesterday so we sat out in the park, avoiding the sun and the gale force winds talking.  The subject of THE BULL RIDER’S BROTHER releasing June 4th came up.  Really, it wasn’t me who started the conversation… (grin)

But I was surprised at the questions…
“So you excited about your book release?”
“How many books have you sold now?”
“It takes that long to release an e-book?”
And of course,
“Have you read 50 Shades of Grey?”

Since I haven’t read the 50 book – I’ll talk about expectations. Realistic expectations.  I know it’s rare for a book to be the next 50 book or Twilight or HP.  But as an author, you hope. And hope is fine.

You just have to realize life goes on.  A lesson my car taught me last night when it stranded me in St. Louis, 33 miles away from home. So I called a tow truck and got a rental. My car didn’t care that I had a book releasing in less than two weeks. Neither did the laundry that wanted to be done this morning before I could start writing.

So knowing that real life is still happening, I’ve decided to plan my own celebrations around Bull Rider’s Brother Launch week. I’m helping a fellow author and a bookstore owner out with a book signing.  I’m taking a mini writer’s retreat weekend.  And I’m bringing home my favorite Chinese takeout on release
day.

New Kids Readers?  What would you do to celebrate a book launch?

Love your ideas for a mini-celebration! I'm pushing for a night at Samurai- our Japanese steak house, kind of like a BeniHana. Congrats on your book, Lynn!!

Congrats on your release, Lynn. It's a super book! I guess I'm weird, I don't have a thing planned. Maybe I will....hmmm...

Lynn! June 4 is write (get it?) around the corner! Sorry about your car and the laundry.

I suppose my party would depend on the day of the week. But not cooking dinner would probably be at the top of my list. :)

A beautiful post on the feelings we all go through while waiting for launch day.

DH and CP took me out for drinks and dinner to celebrate the sale. For launch day, I'm considering hiding in the utility room with a bottle of vodka - lol. What if no one buys it? What if they DO?

Like you, I am amazed at the support and encouragement I'm getting from family, friends, co-workers. (Who want to *read* it - eep!)

I love reading about you guys who are close to release dates. With mine in mid-July it still seems remote and unreal! I'm still dying my hair red with Kool-Aid on June 4th to celebrate you all though!!

I feel your angst, Lynn. My plans for release week include NOT clicking on Amazon a hundred times a day to see if anyone has posted a review.

I, too, look forward to your release...and celebrating our days together!

If I could plan a release day for myself, it would be dinner out...and maybe some sort of a little souvenir or something reflective of my book.

Kristina - the dinner sounds amazing... Congrats to you also launch sister.

D'Ann - So glad you enjoyed the book. Plan something! Celebrate!

Yeah, Abigail - Not cooking would be a great reward.

Irene - hiding in the utility room? Drink your vodka proudly - maybe out on the deck... and breathe... just breathe.

Pam - Mid July is like tomorrow. Just wait. :)

OMG Moriah - Amazon is addicting. Almost as bad as twitter.

Laura - I love the idea of a souvenir. You think Jim would let me keep a real live bull rider around. Just for inspiration. LOL

I'm celebrating later in the week--Saturday I'm having a release party at the gallery where I've been involved--I'm hoping at Collins will show up. But at least my friends and family will be there.

It really hasn't sunk in for me yet. I know my book, Necessary Evil is releasing in June 4th, I even have a count down on my blog, maybe as I get closer? I love the ideas for mini celebrations. The only one I am sure of so far is a virtual book signing party on my blog the morning of the release. You've inspired me to plan a few more. Right now, I'm still walking around in a daze pinching myself from time to time.
Congrats to my June Launch Sisters and for the July and August sisters and all the others that are following suit in the coming months. I do not wish people luck. Luck is for chumps. I wish us all success!

My book releases July 2, which is creeping up fast, too. I've been so busy getting a website up and running, and doing final edits that I haven't given much thought yet to a launch party. Maybe I'll go buy something in Crimson to wear at the RWA conference in late July.
